FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q."Do you only work at home births?"

A. No. I work with home births and hospital births. Simply put, wherever there is a birthing mother, the assistance of a Doula can be very helpful.

Q. "Can I decide on a doula at the last minute or do you need to already be working with the mother long before labor and delivery?"

A: Iv'e begun working with women and their partners as early as a couple of weeks into their pregnancy, and as late as thinking they may already be in labor while I begin coaching them right then and there over the phone. Ideally, doulas generally begin working with their clients about 2 months before their due date in order to be able to come up with a thorough birth plan. However, I believe that whenever the mother or the couple decide on a doula, it is certainly never too soon and never too late.

Q: "Are doctors usually open to having a doula's support in the delivery room?"

A: I have personally never had any issues with any doctors or staff. As part of my certification requirements through DONA International, I've had to acquire written evaluation reports from the staff on my support as a doula. In all of my required evaluations, I have received a 5/5 star rating. I am always more than happy to meet with the doctor or midwife before hand, usually at a scheduled appointment, to become acquainted.
